| LQ performs some of the greatest Latin jazz classics, including "Manha de Carnaval (Black Orpheus)" by Luis Bonfa, which is also the title track of our first CD, recorded in February 2003. Another of our favorites is "Blue Bossa", composed by the prolific trumpeter of the bebop era, Kenny Dorham, which appears on the Latin Quarter's "Caribbean Holiday" CD that was recorded in December 2003 with special guests Warren Byrd on keyboard and Holland's Saskia Laroo on trumpet. Other tunes the Latin Quarter performs include pianist Horace Silver's "Song for My Father" and "Nica's Dream", Herbie Hancock's "Watermelon Man" and "Cantaloupe Island", and Tito Puente's "Oye Como Va". LQ's dynamic repertoire of Latin jazz songs includes many of Brazilian bossa-nova king Antonio Carlos Jobim's classic compositions, such as "Corcovado (Quiet Nights, Quiet Stars)", "Triste", "One Note Samba", "Se Danco Samba", "Wave", "Desafinado", "Favela" and the well-known top ten hit "The Girl from Ipanema". |
