BLUES FOR SASKIA – BOB PASKOWITZ AND WARREN BYRD

This new CD revisits two of Latin Quarter Jazz Collective member Tom Parker’
s previously recorded compositions, “DeJaneiro Sunrise” and “Green
Mountain Bossa Nova”, and introduces a new classic, “Saturday Night
Samba”. Bassist Jason Schwartz wrote the harmonically intriguing “Hanover
Corner” for this session, and Bob “Mr. Sax” Paskowitz’s “Judith”, originally
recorded in 2001 on the “BP4” CD, is reprised here by popular request, and
the song is engagingly reinvented with unique Country & Western and
Reggae stylings by pianist Warren Byrd and guitarist Jeff Wallace, along with
Bob on baritone sax. Special guest Byrd also contributes some stunning intro
work on “Dindi”, a Jobim cover where Bob appears on flute, and “500 Miles
High”, where Bob plays the tenor sax. Bob plays his alto through much of
the set with beautiful tone and Latin jazz flair, changing to tenor on “So
Danco Samba” and “Blues for Saskia”.
